Oppel Greeff, M.D.

Dr. Oppel Greeff joined Quintiles Transnational in 1997 when the company he founded, Clindepharm International, South Africa's first contract research organization, joined Quintiles' global family of companies.

Dr. Greeff  holds a bachelor's degree in medicine and surgery, post-graduate qualifications in primary health care and clinical pharmacology, and a doctorate in psychiatry. He was also elected a Fellow of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom in 1997.

Prior to founding Clindepharm International in 1990, Dr. Greeff served as Medical Director for Roussel Laboratories from 1981 to 1990 and, prior to that, as Medical Advisor for Wellcome South Africa.  In both of those positions, he was intimately involved with the companies' commercialization activities.

Upon joining Quintiles, he served as Medical Director for Quintiles South Africa until January 1999, when he was appointed President of Quintiles Transnational's Africa, India and Australia regions, with Latin America added in 2001.  In 2002 Dr. Greeff was appointed Chief Executive Officer of Quintiles' global Early Development and Laboratory Services and President, Global Product Development Services, while retaining his geographic responsibilities.  In 2004, Dr. Greeff took responsibility for a newly formed region, Africa, Asia and Australasia, with headquarters in Singapore, while retaining his global Product Development Services responsibilities.

Immediately prior to his appointment in April 2007 as Vice Chairman, Operations, Dr. Greeff lead Quintiles' global Clinical Technology Services group, which includes Quintiles' Phase I operations; Global Central Laboratories; Quintiles India; and Strategy and Systems.

As Vice Chairman, Dr. Greeff provides scientific, medical and clinical counsel to the office of the Chief Operating Officer, particular in the areas of accelerating Quintiles’ clinical initiatives, strengthening clinical services, and operational expansion.
