Quintiles acquires Hoechst Marion Roussel's drug development facility in Kansas City and employs about 500 of its staff. In addition, Quintiles will receive at least $436 million in revenue from HMR over five years for support of ongoing HMR projects.

Quintiles becomes the first company in its industry to break the $1 billion milestone in net revenue, reporting 1998 net revenue of $1.19 billion.
